DR TIM DUNCAN - Doctor and Film Maker

e
MBBS, FACRRM, JCCA, GRAD DIP FILM & TV

Flying doctor and film director, Tim graduated from Medicine at Monash University and Film at The Victorian College of the Arts.

His life was forever changed, however, by a near fatal car accident in Kakadu, surviving only after being rescued by three local Aboriginal men and an emergency retrieval doctor out of Darwin. An experience which was made into an Australian Story episode on the ABC and led to him to becoming an emergency retrieval doctor himself.

Tim is now in the unique position of being able to combine medical and artistic careers. As a doctor he is devoted to the care of those most remote and vulnerable while as a film maker he seeks to blend creativity with a humorous commentary on humanity and society.

His short film, Aboriginal Heart, is based on his own experiences as a doctor working in a remote Indigenous community in the Northern Territory and after premiering at Sydney Film Festival, played at London Film Festival, Melbourne and in Venice. It was also the recipient of awards for Best Indigenous Film at both St Kilda and Heart Of Gold Film Festival.

After 5 years as a Royal Flying Doctor in Queensland, medical advisor and guest presenter on ABC TV’s Ask The Doctor, Tim continues to blend medicine and creativity, crafting more film and other content while maintaining a commitment to the practise of medicine in rural, remote and Indigenous communities.
